Why do you want to raise funds?
After Neil passed away and after we had got over the initial shock we realised the closest defib to us was the toll bar on New Abbey road. Call handler had stated none close enough however my brother in law was heading to us and got the code to bring the defib. Sadly it wasn't able to be used to it's full potential for Neil but we realised just how important it is to have these closer. So this was the reason behind us as a family wanting to raise funds for troqueer to have one more central.
How much do you want to raise ?
Our ideal target was to be able to get a defib and plaque in memory of Neil however our goal is now to raise as much as possible and help others who are currently find raising to buy one for their area.
What is a defib ( defibrillator)
Defibrillation is a treatment for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, specifically ventricular fibrillation (V-Fib) and non-perfusing ventricular tachycardia (V-Tach).[1][2] A defibrillator delivers a dose of electric current (often called a counter-shock) to the heart. Although not fully understood, this process depolarizes a large amount of the heart muscle, ending the arrhythmia. Subsequently, the body's natural pacemaker in the sinoatrial node of the heart is able to re-establish normal sinus rhythm.[3] A heart which is in asystole (flatline) cannot be restarted by a defibrillator; it would be treated only by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and medication, and then by cardioversion or defibrillation if it converts into a shockable rhythm.
How do I use a defib?
The company we are using for supplying our defib have offered a free training session at Troqueer Community centre so when the time comes we will invite people along for this. Upon this Any further needing help we should be able to provide others with this similar training to pass on to other people however we will try to upload a video demonstration on here as well as our social media pages. On the evening of us having to use it was easy enough to learn in a panic and a rush but again wasn't quick enough for it to work.
